Brisbane/Meanjin’s winter music and arts series Open Season will launch its 2024 instalment with the free, all ages street party Blak Day Out. It’s happening from 3:30pm-9:30pm on Saturday 1 June in the King St precinct. You can register for tickets here.

UPDATE 31/05: Due to wet weather, Blak Day Out has been moved to Saturday 24 August.

The lineup is led by Emma Donovan, who’s in the middle of an extensive national tour behind her new solo album, the sparkling country affair Til My Song is Done. Psych rock duo Velvet Trip are also playing, as well as Indigenous hip hop supergroup 3%, featuring Dallas Woods, Nooky and Angus Field. BADASSMUTHA and The Ancient Bloods round out the lineup.

Blak Day Out is presented by Open Season founders The Tivoli Group and Alethea Beetson’s Blak Social arts organisation. “Blak Day Out is a space for community to come together and celebrate the music being made by this continent’s very First musicians,” Beetson said in a statement.

Open Season runs from June till August and the program includes internationals Sky Ferreira, INIKO and Explosions in the Sky, Australian acts Dirty Three, POND and Two Another, and plenty more. More details here.
