Angie McMahon made her second appearance on triple j’s Like A Version earlier this year, performing a cover of Australian Crawl’s 1983 single “Reckless.” The track has now officially landed on streaming services, days out from the launch of McMahon’s “Making It Through” Australian tour. McMahon told triple j that she first heard “Reckless” on Gold 104.3 FM while driving her car. She was intrigued by the references to mother nature and decided to rejig it as a climate change song. “I was – and am – thinking a lot about the emissions in Australia, which are just insane,” McMahon said. “It felt really important to play the song in a way that is fun, but also trying to speak to a lot of the anxiety that we feel, and a lot of the anger that is happening.”
McMahon’s upcoming tour follows the October 2023 release of her second album, Light, Dark, Light Again, which includes the singles “Letting Go,” “Fireball Whiskey” and “Making It Through.” The Melbourne-based musician started 2024 with a slot on the Laneway festival tour before officially launching the “Making It Through” world tour in the US and Canada. In March, she joined Fred again.. onstage at his shows in Melbourne.
The tour’s Australian leg will visit Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle, Thirroul, Hobart, Melbourne, Bendigo, Perth and Adelaide between mid May and early June. McMahon and her band will then head to the UK and Europe.
