Post-minimalist composer Max Richter will return to Australia in February 2025. He’ll have a new album out by then, with In a Landscape due for release on Friday 6 September. Richter is bringing the American Contemporary Music Ensemble with him for shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Find all the details below.

Richter’s performances will centre on pieces from In a Landscape as well as his 2004 anti-war protest album, The Blue Notebooks. The first taste of the new album is “Movement, Before All Flowers,” which you can listen to now.

The album was recorded in the Oxfordshire studio that Richter shares with his wife, visual artist Yulia Mahr. “For me, the music on the record is about connecting or reconciling polarities,” Richter said in a statement. “The electronics with the acoustic instruments, the natural world with the human world, and the big ideas of life with the personal and intimate.”

While making In a Landscape, Richter hearkened back to the methods and concepts that underpinned The Blue Notebooks, he said. “In a way this record is another look at the themes of the earlier work, but from the perspective of our world and our lives in 2024.”
