The Buoys’ new single, “Subject A,” is a sharp-edged power pop belter. Amid layers of power chords and vocal harmonies, the Sydney band refuses to follow the directions of “self-appointed cool and woke” men.
“‘Subject A’ is a commentary on the male gaze, and the pressure to suppress yourself in order to be perceived as cool and attractive,” the band said in a statement.
Local rock music fans have likely seen The Buoys play live over the last couple of years, whether it be supporting Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood, IDLES and DMA’S or onstage at Laneway and Party in the Paddock.
“Subject A” follows the band’s recent singles “Guard My Heart” and “Settle Petal,” as well as the Sløtface collab, “Fight Back Time.” There are no details of an album or EP as yet, but The Buoys promise there’s more to come in 2024.
