Sound of the Australian underground is Check Check’s fortnightly playlist celebrating the best sounds coming out of bedrooms, bandrooms, clubs and ad hoc studios around the country.
This week’s playlist is headlined by the Yolŋu funk brilliance of Andrew Gurruwiwi Band’s “Yaa DjamarrkuḻI.” It’s Gurruwiwi’s first new single since his stunning 2022 debut “Gatjumak.” You can catch Andrew Gurruwiwi Band performing at Warriors, a concert raising awareness for First Nations men’s mental health at Brisbane’s QPAC Hall on 31 July. J-MILLA, Jungaji and Radical Son are also on the lineup.
