Several local and international acts have been added to the program for Melbourne’s winter festival RISING. Locals Surprise Chef, Sarah Mary Chadwick and Polito join the lineup for the festival within a festival, Day Tripper, while HTRK’s 21st birthday party gains Danish composer Astride Sonne, Glaswegian band Still House Plants and local experimentalists YL Hooi and CS + Kreme.
After selling out two gigs at Hamer Hall, Dirty Three have added a show at Forum Melbourne. Two more sessions of Hear My Eyes: Hellraiser have been announced, with Chicago techno producer Hieroglyphic Being set to team up with audiovisual artist Robin Fox on a new live score and light show for 80s horror flick Hellraiser.

Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor will DJ at RISING’s opening night party, Shannon Michael Cane: Someone Great – A Celebration. The event’s late namesake ran the LGTBQIA+ Witness Protection Program parties in Melbourne in the early 2000s and went on to curate the influential New York and Los Angeles Art Book Fairs. Taylor will be joined by Gerard Frank Long (aka Sugar Plump Fairy), Andee Frost, and Paul Mac and Johnny Seymour’s Stereogamous.
A bunch of local supports have also been announced. Miss Kaninna will support ONEFOUR at their first Melbourne headline show; Kaiit will support Swedish crooner Snoh Aalegra at two sold out Forum shows; DJ PGZ will support Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) at PICA; Chikchika are supporting desert blues maestros Tinariwen at Forum; Georgia Knight is supporting NYC indie rockers Blonde Redhead at Forum; and DJs Ramsey and Jale have been added to Moktar’s Town Hall takeover.
The RISING program also includes Tirzah, Yves Tumor, Fever Ray, Evian Christ, Jlin, bar italia, Sky Ferreira, Good Morning, and more.
