Alex Watts shows off his head voice on the new single, “SFYL,” the latest taste of the Naarm/Melbourne indie soul artist’s upcoming EP, Permission.
“SFYL” is all funk drum breaks and hard jangling guitars, recalling the likes of Menahan Street Band and Tommy Guerrero. The lyrics are performed with a tongue in cheek. “You never knew me / So sorry for your loss,” Watts sings in the chorus. Watch the track’s lyric video below.
“SFYL” follows the relatively laidback single “Become,” both of which will appear on Permission. Watts recorded Permission at Soundpark Studios in Northcote with help from Matthew Hayes (30/70), Hudson Whitlock (Surprise Chef), Lewis Coleman, Darvid Thor (Karate Boogaloo) and keyboardist Jake Amy.
