Sydney-based singer-songwriter Nick Ward will release his debut album, House With The Blue Door, on Friday 4 October. The record’s latest single is “All Your Life,” the video for which can be found below. Ward was recently announced as the main support for Troye Sivan’s Something to Give Each Other Australian tour.
Ward wrote and produced “All Your Life” with Brisbane producer Maxwell Byrne, better known as Golden Vessel. It’s the third single to be released from the album, following “Shooting Star” and “Gimme.”
The album centres on themes of family, childhood, and one’s relationship with the past. Ward arrived at this lyrical focus after visiting an exhibition of the works of Swedish abstract painter Hilma af Klint at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
“I think your early 20s is about coming to terms with your childhood, especially after finishing high school and experiencing more of the world,” Ward said in a statement. “Starting therapy really made me realise how much emotional baggage I was holding onto, and this record was made while I was unpacking all of that.”
Ward finished making the album shortly before he turned 22. “It felt nice to encapsulate my adolescence in one statement,” he said. “For a while it was hard for me to listen to, just because of the headspace I was in while making it, but now it brings me a lot of joy and it gives me closure to finally release it.”
