After entertaining the masses at Darwin’s BASSINTHEGRASS music festival last weekend, King Stingray have announced a regional tour. The rock sextet from Yirrkala will hit the road from mid-July through to the end of August, visiting regional hubs in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and playing one show each in Canberra and Nhulunbuy in the NT. The band have also shared details of their next single, which follows the March release, “Through The Trees.” Due next Wednesday 29 May, “Best Bits” is described as a song about “simple living in a complex digital world.” The track has been a fixture of the band’s recent live sets, including their sunset performance at Golden Plains in March.
“‘Best Bits’ is a song about all the best parts of life all poured into one moment,” the band said in a statement. “It’s about those ripper-of-a-day type moments, those warm days in the sunshine with your mates, with your family or a loved one. The memorable days that just seem to stick with you.”
King Stingray are working on the follow-up to their self-titled debut album from 2022. That record won the 2022 Australian Music Prize and helped the band claim the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist award at the 2022 ARIAs. King Stingray was also named Independent Album of the Year at the 2023 AIR Awards. It’s not confirmed whether “Through The Trees” and “Best Bits” will appear on the forthcoming album.
