Dirty Three, PR
Dirty Three will play two shows at Hamer Hall for this year’s RISING: Melbourne festival. It’s been 12 years since the band, led by violinist Warren Ellis, played a headline show in their hometown.
Ellis, drummer Jim White and guitarist Mick Turner have been making unpredictable and spiritually moving instrumental music since 1992. On albums such as Ocean Songs (1998) and She Has No Strings Apollo (2003), Dirty Three take cues from jazz, post-rock, punk and folk music without adhering to any strict discipline.
Dirty Three concerts are defined as much by the trio’s elastic improvisations as by Ellis’ rambling and surrealistic between-song banter. The upcoming RISING performances – on June 14 and 15 – are the band’s only scheduled shows.
