Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, has debuted at the top of ARIA’s Top 50 Albums chart. Swift has now topped the chart 13 times, the most times for any female artist in ARIA history.
Swift has also claimed spots 1-10 in this week’s ARIA singles chart, making her the first artist to ever entirely populate the top ten. Swift has a total of 29 songs in the ARIA Top 50, far outdoing the previous record-holder, Drake, who had 20 songs in the chart in 2021.
The record-smashing impact of The Eras Tour
This latest streak of landmark achievements follows Swift’s record-breaking Australian tour in February 2024. Before Swift had landed in Australia, The Eras Tour was officially deemed the highest-grossing music tour of all time and the first to ever surpass $1 billion (USD) in revenue.
Australian fans contributed to this number. More than four million fans were online during the second ticket presale – a new record for the number of people simultaneously attempting to access tickets to a concert tour.
Swift’s three concerts at the MCG attracted the highest attendance of any gigs in her career. “This is the biggest show that we have done on this tour, or any tour, ever,” Swift said onstage in Melbourne after learning there were 96,000 people in the audience.
She became the first artist to perform four shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium during a single tour. A total of 570,000 tickets were sold for the tour’s seven concerts.
Angel Zhong, an Associate Professor of Finance at RMIT University, told Forbes that Swift’s Australian tour would’ve injected “at least $558 million” into the Australian economy.
KPMG economist Brendan Rynne disputed this figure, telling the Australian Financial Review that the tour would’ve added just $10 million to the national economy. Meanwhile, Swift is thought to have taken home $100 million in after-tax profit.
