It’s 30 years since trip hop pioneers Portishead released their debut album, Dummy. To mark this milestone, the Late Night Orchestra presents The Portishead Legacy: a tribute show that’s coming to theatres in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne this winter. Find the tour dates below.
The 12-piece Late Night Orchestra, put together by artistic Director Jesse Flavell, will be joined by vocalists Clea, Jaguar Jonze, Ngaiire and SAFIA’s Ben Woolner. They’ll perform songs from Portishead’s compact but influential discography, including seminal tracks like “Glory Box,” “All Mine,” and “Sour Times.” The Late Night Orchestra will feature strings, brass and turntables alongside guitar, bass and drums.
Portishead - "Sour Times"
The Portishead Legacy is teased as the first of many tribute shows to come from the Late Night Orchestra. In their own words, the idea is to present “after hours music for the Back to Mine generation,” a reference to the Back to Mine mix series that ran from 1999 to 2008 with contributions from Morcheeba, Everything But the Girl, Tricky, Groove Armada and stacks more. Back to Mine rebooted in 2019.
