Tiddas
Tiddas’ Lou Bennett wrote the trio’s debut single, 1992’s “Inside My Kitchen,” before the group had officially formed. It was written in response to Bennett’s then-partner having a psychotic episode. “It was one of my first compositions and it helped me cope with this new and traumatic experience,” said Bennett, a Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung woman, in 2008.
Bennett – now an academic specialising in Aboriginal language retrieval – shares lead vocal duties on “Inside My Kitchen” with her bandmates, Sally Dastey and Amy Saunders. Their three voices combined to make “Inside My Kitchen” one the most moving Australian songs of its era.
