Check Check is devoted to Australia’s live music scene.
Music is for everyone. It’s not a niche interest for people in a certain age bracket. Nor is it reserved for people who associate with a particular subculture. Music is ancient, communal. It’s a way to transcend and connect. That’s why Check Check aims to appeal to anyone with ears.
Check Check is built on the legacy of independent media brands inthemix, FasterLouder and Music Junkee. The community of music lovers that’s surrounded these titles over the last 20 years can now join us as we move into our next chapter as Check Check.
Along with providing accessible and authoritative coverage of Australia’s ever-evolving live music scene, we’re maintaining a back-and-forth conversation with all members of the broader music community, from artists to fans to industry personnel.
Across our website and social media channels, our content is centred on Australian artists. We’re paying attention to local artists on the rise, digging into developing scenes and finding out who’s moving the needle. We’re looking beyond the mainstream to embrace a diversity of sounds, styles and perspectives.
We’re also celebrating pop music and the marquee artists of earlier eras. Australian music culture is an iterative exchange of ideas, and by looking back on influential acts from decades gone by, we’re illustrating how music both reflects the times and expands the collective imagination. From Kylie Minogue to Savage Garden, Helen Reddy and Yothu Yindi, we’re interested in every artist who’s helped shape the Australian pop cultural landscape.
But music is nothing without the audience, and the live music scene is our central focus. We’ve partnered with Whatslively on a national gig guide that lives on the Check Check website. This means wherever you are in the country, you can find out who’s coming to town and where to get your tickets. We’ll run frequent editorial to guide you in your decision making and we’ll be on the ground at gigs all over the country to generate some sweet FOMO.
We’re getting behind festivals big and small and spotlighting tours featuring both local and international artists. It’s what happens in venues across the country that interests us the most, be it at a major pop concert in a Sydney sports stadium or a DIY punk gig in a Hobart sharehouse. These are the stories we want to tell.
The live music industry has been affected by a confluence of macro and micro disruptions over the last handful of years. In response, we’re committed to cultivating new audiences and increasing enthusiasm across every age group. We want to speak to Troye Sivan stans as much as underground club kids, and everyone in between – no matter where in the country you’re based.
Australia’s live music scene is one of the best in the world. We’re here to make it even better.
