André 3000 will bring his debut solo album, New Blue Sun, to the Art Gallery of NSW this July as part of the gallery’s second annual Volume festival. The Atlanta rapper turned new age jazz musician is one of four headliners announced for Volume 2024, all of whom will be performing in the Tank, which is located deep below street level in AGNSW’s Naala Badu building.
Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon will perform two shows in the Tank during the Australian tour behind her new solo album, The Collective. Pop and hip hop stylist Genesis Owusu has also booked a double header in the Tank, while Tkay Maidza will decorate the Tank with the hip hop and R&B sounds of last year’s Sweet Justice LP for one night only.
Volume’s full program announcement is expected on May 22. The gallery has indicated there’ll be a range of free events happening in both Naala Badu and the main AGNSW building. Seven ticketed events are promised, meaning three more will be announced on top of the aforementioned headliners.
