The winners of the 2024 APRA Music Awards were announced last night in a ceremony at ICC Sydney. Troye Sivan won the night’s biggest prize, the peer-voted APRA Song of the Year, for his song “Rush.” The horny pop song triumphed over Paul Kelly’s “If Not Now,” Angie McMahon’s “Letting Go,” Budjerah’s “Therapy,” and G Flip’s “The Worst Person Alive.” Budjerah, despite five nominations, went home empty-handed.
Bart Willoughby, of Indigenous reggae band No Fixed Address, was honoured with the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music. Willoughby’s old friends Stephen Pigram and Don Walker were there to hand him the award.
Other winners included Dean Lewis, who took home Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work, The Teskey Brothers’ Josh and Sam Teskey, who were named Songwriter(s) of the Year, and grentperez, who won Emerging Songwriter of the Year.
