AANTHOLOGIES books Kee’ahn, RVG’s Romy Vager, and more for fifth birthday fundraiser

RVG’s Romy Vager and Yalanji, Jirrbal, Badu Islander musician Kee’ahn lead the lineup for AANTHOLOGIES’ fifth birthday party. The Naarm/Melbourne music music company will take over two rooms at Collingwood venue The Tote on Friday 16 August, with Bananagun, FERLA, Elizabeth M. Drummond and Emilee South rounding out the bill.

AANTHOLOGIES, a PR and artist management agency founded by Alyse Newman, has worked with several Naarm-based acts over the last handful of years, including Kee’ahn, FERLA, Alice Skye, MAGNETS and The Slingers, and internationals such as Kevin Morby, Current Joys and La Femme.

“I’m very proud of our roster and feel fortunate to share music I love with the community every day,” said Newman. “It’s a joy and a privilege to be helping artists navigate this wonderful but often very challenging industry.”

The agency’s fifth birthday party doubles as a fundraiser for the Global Empowerment Mission, a charity organisation that supports people and communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises. “We hope you’ll join us in celebrating while raising money for a worthy cause,” said Newman.

AANTHOLOGIES’ fifth birthday party offers a rare opportunity to see Romy Vager perform solo. RVG recently wrapped up an Australian tour behind their AMP-winning third album, Brain Worms, and will head to the UK and Europe at the end of August. After a few years of relative silence, Kee’ahn returned in 2023 with the electro-soul singles, “catch the night” and “sunsets,” and the reggae-influenced protest song, “Take No More,” a collaboration with Emma Donovan.

Pop deviant FERLA will also perform solo at the event, premiering material from the anticipated follow-up to 2022’s Personal Hotspot. Psych- and tropicalia-influenced garage rock crew Bananagun are working on a follow-up to their 2020 debut, The True Story of Bananagun; Emilee South channelled the influence of IDLES, Grinderman and Sharon Van Etten into her recent LP, LUXURY; and Elizabeth M. Drummond spent the first half of 2024 drip-feeding singles, the latest being the lullaby-like “Clowns.”
